About

Driffield Striders is a small, friendly local longstanding running club founded in 1983.  The club is aimed at all standards of running from social runners to those who wish to pursue and achieve their own goals. We have 70+ members at present (including our walking group).   Our current members are of varied abilities, have individual goals and run for different reasons so we are able to embrace and welcome any runners into the club.  We also have a small walking club which consists of regular walkers and some runners who are recovering from injuries.

Our club nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30pm meeting in the reception area of Wolds Way To Health Gym, Cranwell Road (near Wetherspoons).  When the light nights arrive we have ‘away’ runs every other Tuesday when we meet at one of the surrounding villages and run different rural routes making use of and enjoying the countryside and avoiding the town centre as we really get enough of this during the endless winter months.  Please check first as we hold away runs on some Tuesdays and during the summer months, we meet at Driffield school running track on Thursdays at 7pm. We also hold a junior running club (see further details on the website) at the Driffield School track.   When this is in progress we also meet at the track and do some speed work prepared by our club coaches Jon and Alison. For more information contact info@driffieldstriders.co.uk

Club committee meetings are held once a month to allow members to express their views and bring along new ideas. In addition there are social functions for members, family and friends.

We have a club email mailing list and most of our information gets sent to members by email.  To adhere to data protection any emails will initially be sent to one club member who will then forward to the rest of Striders using an unidentifiable method.  We have a facebook page and also a website for further information/photographs.

The yearly membership fee is £28 which runs April to March. We affiliate our club members to the UK Athletics which allows us to run for the cheaper (affiliated) fee at races and also gives the club one treasured London Marathon Place.  We have a system for this place so that every club member in time will get a chance to have the place if they are unsuccessful in the ballot (for more information see Karen, Club Secretary).   We also get a discount at most sports shops if you show your UK Athletics membership card. If you are interested in becoming a member of Driffield Striders please see the membership tab for more details.

We have a cross country league starting in October where we have six cross country runs in Bishop Wilton, Wetwang, Welton, Sewerby, Drewton Woods and our own which is Sledmere.  We complete against Beverley, Goole, Scarborough, Selby, City of Hull AC, Bridlington, Yorkshire Wolds Runners and Pocklington.

Running is important of course but we also have very good social ‘gatherings’.
